WOW! Annihilation (2018) available on Netflix, starring Natalie Portman, is both gripping and essentially disturbing!
This horrifying sci-fi thriller, explores a lot of themes, as it unpacks the possibility of a hostile alien invasion. The script, based on John VanderMeer’s best-selling South Reach trilogy, subtly moves the viewer from an innocent curiosity; into an invasive and scary world, where none of the characters have control over their exploration assignment of the external being.
Natalie Portman’s performance is nothing to write home about, compared to some of the CGI horror effects and mind-altering sounds, used to take the viewers imagination to another realm!
This movie adaptation is not for the faint at heart, drawing on my personal experience. I am still having nightmares weeks after watching it.
